Some pictures from the inner reef at Majahama, Miyakojima. The outer reef is a great snorkeling point, but we went at low tide and couldn’t get to the outer reef because the water was too low.

Flying with Turtles- Yabiji, Miyakojima

This day I was actually working as a snorkeling guide. Once everyone was back on the boat I swam over to get a few pictures of the sea moss. Once I got close I noticed a few large shadows. There were originally 4 turtles, but only one stayed around to be photographed.

Pictures from the outer reef of Majahama. The reef is located about a 150 meteres from beach and is about 10-15 meters deep.

Nagasakihama is located on the western side of Kurimajima. Entry can be a bit difficult during low tide, but there is some beautiful coral and fish.

From Tokyo to Miyako Island

It has been a little while since I have made a post here on the Scuba Island. The main reason being that I have recently moved from Tokyo to Miyakojima (an island south west of Okinawa) and was without internet for a while. You can see a fewe of the pictures here: November in Miyakojima and also some of the pictures I took on the previous trip to Miyakojima here.If you can read Japanese, you can also find a great blog on Miyakojima here.

So far life on the Island has been great. It is still November and the weather has been in the mid 70′s to 80′s most everyday. Miyako Island Scuba diving is apparently great, but do to the cost (around $150) for 2 boat dives) I have been doing a lot of snorkeling.

The closest beach (painagama beach) is about a 5 minute drive from our house. It has a few spots anenomes and clown fish, but the visability isn’t to great. Luckily there are a number of locations within about a 10 minute drive that have clear waters and an abundance of life. Nagamajima (located on the Island of Kurima, has swarms of fish and some neat reef structures, Maehama has some amazing beaches, and Sunayama also has a wide variety of fish.
